"Alien life raises many theological implications" said the Vatican yesterday
It seems the The Sparrow by Maria Gloria Russel was more prophetic than I realised. The ABC reported today that at a conference being held currently in Rome to discuss the possibility of extra-terrestrial life, "Jesuit priest Father Jose Gabriel Funes, an astronomer and director of the Vatican Observatory ... said the possibility of alien life raises 'many philosophical and theological implications.'" (The protestants haven't been completely idle, on the throwaway table at the Ridley Library I found God in the Space Age by Martin J. Heinecken.)
